And the winner is… Robot!

The French designed ViKY robotic laparoscope holder made it’s stateside debut last week at Philedelphia’s Fox Chase Cancer Center, assisting in the removal of two cysts from the pancreas of a 65 year old patient. And while a robotic laparoscope holder is, basically, a very small, very high tech lamp with a camera attached to it, the new level of control and flexibility the device (which can be controlled through voice recognition software) grants surgeons can turn open procedures into minimally invasive ones, reducing patients health risks, pain and healing time. And if less time spent in a hospital isn’t a good thing, the I don’t know what is.
